Three Things That “Happy Couples” Do That Makes Their Marriage Better Than Most

Published Saturday, December 14, 2024

We all know a couple that seems almost “too happy” together, don’t we? And while we try and dismiss their ways as annoying, we secretly yearn for the connection they seem to have.

Well, there are a few simple things that almost any couple can do to increase their connection with their partner, no matter how long you’ve been together.

  1. Cook a Meal Together: The old days of the woman cooking while the man read the newspaper are long gone. Cooking together is fun, it’s romantic, it sparks creativity, and it also lets you accomplish something together as a couple. You need not cook together all the time, but a weekly “cooking date” can really help your relationship. Get a little adventurous too – plan a “French Friday” meal. Or make a few pizzas together.
  2. Start Texting (and Sexting!): Most couples communicate via text on an as-needed basis. “Will you pick up milk?” “Can you get the kids?”. Etc. Start inserting love language messages in there. “You looked beautiful/handsome this morning” goes a LONG way. And keep it up… say nice things to each other regularly. And yes, even get a little naughty if that’s where it leads. We know a couple in their 60’s who “sexts” each other all the time. They’re always smiling, so yea, it can’t be all bad.
  3. Watch Movies Together: Life is waaay too hectic for most of us. Movies force us to sow down. Make it a weekly thing, and take turns picking the movie. Make popcorn, and cuddle up. Then talk about the movie – what you liked, didn’t like, etc. Watching a movie together certainly beats being on social media separately.

These are all simple, low-cost activities that I guarantee will help your relationship.
